Local Resources for Seniors and Their Families
Claire Murphy, Chris Sabo, and Kathleen Hanchett will share information about available local resources for seniors. Claire is the Director of the Washington County Office for the Aging, and Chris is the Director of the Warren/Hamilton Office for the Aging. Kathleen is the Program Coordinator for Caritas. This panel will describe each of their respective roles and how they serve area seniors.

Canary Courtship: Strategies for Happier & Healthier Aging
Susan Wehry, M.D., PLC, is a geriatric psychiatrist, and is a consultant with the Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living at the Agency of Human Services for the State of Vermont. Dr. Wehry will begin to explain how we came to understand that the brain is capable of making new brain cells, and offer practical and encouraging strategies for happier and healthier aging.

Retirement Planning and Investments
Nancy Flint-Budde is a Certified Financial Planner specializing in broad-based planning, focusing on long-term goals and objectives. Her talk will center on “investing for a lifetime,” “Beware of the Free Lunch,” and “Paying for Healthcare Costs Now and in the Future.” She will also suggest valuable websites to visit.

Legal Considerations When Appointing an Agent (Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy, Executor, Trustee)
Elizabeth Mahoney, Esq., an attorney with the firm Bartlett, Pontiff, Stewart, & Rhodes, P.C.; Dennis O’Connor, an attorney with the firm McPhillips, Fitzgerald & Cullum, P.C.; and Michael Dezik, Esq., an attorney with the firm FitzGerald Morris Baker Firth, P.C., will assist us with understanding the need to appoint a person to act on our behalf when we are not able to do so for ourselves. Do we really understand the roles, duties, and responsibilities our agents will have? Learn why appointing an agent is not to be taken lightly.

Gretchen Moore-Simmons is the Director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York. Anyone whose life is being touched by this heart-wrenching disease will benefit from Gretchen’s vast knowledge of the subject.

Defeating the Aging Process
Barbara DelSignore is retired now, but for more than 40 years she owned and operated a modeling agency, and produced all-natural skin care products, along with writing a beauty book. Barbara will share her tips and recommendations for slowing the aging process.

Staying Connected: Socialization, Volunteering, and Continuing Education
Denise Brucker and Frank Pelkey will team up to discuss the value of “Staying Connected.” Denise is the Director of Continuing Education at SUNY Adirondack. Frank is the Coordinator of Outreach Services at Crandall Library. Come learn what your community has to offer to keep your brain active and your knowledge base growing.

Project Lifesaver: Bringing Loved Ones Home
Gloria Ford is the Director of Warren County Project Lifesaver, a Department in the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Bud York is the Warren County Sheriff. Gloria and Bud will discuss the benefits of Project Lifesaver, a rapid response system to save lives and reduce potential for serious injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, Down syndrome, dementia, and other related cognitive conditions.

Crimes Against the Elderly
Kate Hogan is the Warren County District Attorney. According to the best available estimates, there are between one million and two million Americans over the age of 65 who have been injured, exploited, or mistreated by someone on whom they depend for care or protection. The abuse and neglect ranges from physical to emotional to financial. Kate will address the ways to recognize signs of abuse, how to appropriately report it, and safety measures to prevent physical abuse and financial exploitation.

Exercise: The Fountain of Youth
Linda Perry is the owner/operator of Fit Happens in Queensbury, and she specializes in personal training for seniors. Linda will share tips, recommendations, and suggestions on strength training, along with suggestions for slowing or minimizing osteoporosis.

Family Care Files: Understanding Long Term Care
Eileen Dunn is the Executive Director of Trinity Elder Care. Eileen will discuss the importance of family care files and making important documents available to various people in a senior’s life.
